The Landfill

Hours

:
Monday-Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Responsibilities

The Engineering and Facilities Department is responsible for the administration, operation, and maintenance of the baler facility and landfill area. The Baler compacts waste into blocks which are then placed in the landfill. The landfill is operated in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines.

Fees

Landfill operations are supported wholly by disposal fees. Most fees are assessed via garbage collection services so residents can bring many household items to the landfill for free, however there are also some fees charged at the landfill.

Disposal Service Fees

Some disposal services are charged a fee, among them are:
  • Commercial garbage
  • Metals
  • Residential and commercial construction and remodeling materials including lumber and fixtures (sinks, cabinets, etc.)
  • Vehicles
Please see the Solid Waste section of our fee schedule for fee amounts.

Refund of Over Payment

Over payments for solid waste disposal charge accounts will be applied to the account declared.  When the account is closed with written notice a refund check will be processed within 2 to 4 weeks from the date of the request.

If you have a question about a possible over payment on your solid waste disposal account, or a refund you believe is due, please email dcross@kodiakak.us or call the Finance Department at 907-486-9323
